Jordan/Wisseman and Rowland ClassesJordan/Wisseman ClassTeacher: Sherrill Hall Rowland ClassTeachers: Midge Rasey and Nancy Glenz The Jordan/Wisseman and Rowland Classes both study the Bible using the Uniform Series: International Bible Lessons for Christian Teaching. Both classes provide the opportunity to dig into the meaning of the message in the selected Bible verses. Discussion and interpretation of verses help participants with their understanding of the Word. The Rowland Class is a more traditional Bible study class and the Jordan/Wisseman Class is a more discussion oriented class. Winter Quarter (December, January, and February)This winter, Adult Bible Study offers a course entitled “Human Commitment.” Writers Phil Bence and Chuck Aaron explore humankind’s response to God’s call and examine the commitment of specific person or persons in each of twelve lessons. Commitment to the MessiahThis unity draws its four lessons from the passages in Luke’s Gospel. The first lesson looks at the commitment of Mary, the mother of Jesus. Lesson two turns to Elizabeth and her commitment as mother of John the Baptist. Lesson three views the Christmas story through the shepherds who glorified God at the birth of Jesus. The unit concludes with a lesson examining the commitment of John the Baptist to prepare the way for the Messiah.
Old Testament People of CommitmentThe eight lessons in this unit profile the commitment of several Old Testament personalities. The lesson for January 4 focuses on the midwives who kept the Hebrew boy babies alive. Next, we meet Rahab, the Jericho harlot who cooperated with the Hebrew spies. The lesson for January 18 examines Joshua’s commitment as the successor to Moses, followed by a study of the role of Samson’s mother in preparing for his birth. The lesson for February 1 considers the Shunammite woman who assisted Elisha, and the next lesson recounts Nathan’s confrontation of King David. Ester’s story provides the focus for February 15th’s lesson. The unit concludes by considering the response of Isaiah to God’s call.
