Men's Prayer BreakfastWhen: Friday mornings at 7:00 AMWhere: Oakcrest Family Restaurant, 2435 Battleground Ave - Map For more info contact: Paul Davis (paul [at] congregationalucc [dot] com) A Testimonial by Mike DorkoWe meet every Friday at Oakcrest Family Restaurant at 7:00 AM to share a bite and conversation. The line-up varies from week to week as schedules permit and no one has an assigned seat. The food is average to good, but the conversation is exceptional. Topics from spirituality to motor oil are heard over the rattle of silverware. Opinions fly like hot cakes off the griddle when the topic of politics is mentioned. For me, the Men's Prayer Breakfast has been a chance to meet and share stories with men in the church I would have otherwise never talk with, other than a Sunday "hello." We have shared and learned about each other's backgrounds, families, and beliefs. We have enjoyed numerous retreats at St. Francis Springs Retreat Center in Stoneville where we discussed being a Christian man in today's world. No subject is off-limits and all conversations are confidential. What is said there stays there and that's a house rule. That's where Hannah comes in. We are a band of brothers and one young woman. Hannah has been part of our Men's Group since her father Paul Davis brought her along before driving her to school. Once sworn to silence and given the secret handshake (not really), she has given us all an insightful perspective from a much younger point of view. Now that she is away at school her occasional visit is a much-celebrated event. I invite all the men of our church and their friends to join us one Friday. Hannah may even be there. |
